While searching for the perfect summer cocktail, I stumbled across a recipe for the perfect margarita that I just had to try. It was so simple I didn’t really believe it would taste like much. This is because I always assumed margaritas came from a pre-made, “just add tequila” mix that you found next to all the mixers in the grocery store. Apparently, college teaches you nothing. But in all seriousness, all you need are fresh limes, tequila, triple sec, and simple syrup for the perfect margarita. Plus, it obviously tastes a thousand times better than the off-the-shelf mixers.
While margaritas on their own are delicious, I wanted to add a little something else to help make it lighter and more refreshing on a hot summer day. In comes the grapefruit juice. You can either use fresh squeezed or simply juice in the carton (not from concentrate of course!). Serve this on the rocks or frozen!
Lime Zest Rim (optional)
- Zest of 1 lime
- 2 tbsp sugar
Grapefruit Lime Margarita
- 4 oz. of your favorite Tequila
- 2 oz. simple syrup
- 2 oz. triple sec
- 4-8 oz. grapefruit juice
- Juice of 2 limes
Makes two.
Step 1: Prepare the lime zest rim. All this entails is zesting a lime and mixing in the sugar. You can also prepare your rim at this time by wetting the rim with lime juice and gently pressing it into the sugar and zest mixture. Fill the glass with ice.
Step 2: In a shaker, add in the tequila, simple syrup, triple sec, and juice of 1 lime. Give everything a good shake and pour the mixture in the glass. Fill the glass to the top with grapefruit juice and serve.
These are so good I now keep tequila and fresh limes on hand at all times. You never know when you’ll need one. Plus, they pair perfectly with your Tuesday Taco Nights or your next summer BBQ!
And with that, thanks for reading!
