Reduction Ready Review: Strawberry Ice Cream with Balsamic Reduction Glaze

A few weeks back, our good friend Miles came into town bringing with him 3 bottles of his very own reductions from his new company, Reduction Ready. What are reductions you may ask? Excellent question. A reduction is simply the process of thickening or intensifying the flavor of a liquid by slowly simmering. These ready-made reductions save you the time and effort of making your own so you can focus on what you do best – cooking! These reductions are an all-natural, low-cal way to add a burst of flavor to practically any dish. Selma and I were very eager to try them all out so we took the weekend to incorporate them into some of our favorite dishes.

For the past few days, Selma and I have been experimenting with our reductions from Reduction Ready. We’ve tested it out in our recipes for Creamy Mushroom Risotto and Steak Tips but we were really interested to see how it would taste in a dessert. Luckily, Selma stumbled across this recipe on the interwebs that shows you how to make ice cream with just two ingredients without the use of a machine! Mind blown. The best part about this recipe is that it builds a base for you to make whatever flavors you like so this was the perfect foundation to try out our Strawberry Ice Cream with Balsamic Reduction Glaze.

What you will need:

  1. 10 ounces cold, sweetened condensed milk (fat-free or regular). I lowered the amount of condensed milk because 14 ounces was just too sweet for this recipe.
  2. 2 cups cold whipping cream
  3. 2 cups of strawberries, cut into small chunks
  4. 1/2 cup of sugar

Step 1: Place your strawberry chunks and sugar in a small saucepan and simmer over low heat for ~8-10 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool down to room temp.

The sugar will help bring out the moisture in the strawberries and help thicken the sauce to form a thick syrup.

Step 3: Reduce the speed and add in your cold condensed milk. This forms your ice cream base. From this point on, it’s dealers choice regarding the flavor!

Step 4: Since we were making strawberry ice cream, we gently folded in the strawberry syrup into the base.

Step 5: Spoon the ice cream into any container you like and let it set in the freezer for at least 6 hours or overnight.

And there you have it! Delicious homemade ice cream without the need for a fancy ice cream machine! This is the perfect gift for family and friends and you can literally customize the ice cream to make any flavor you want.

Now this last step is completely optional but we really enjoyed the contrast that the Balsamic Reduction adds to the ice cream. The Reduction Ready Balsamic Reduction adds a sweet and tart contrast that just works beautifully with the sweetness of the strawberries. We would definitely suggest getting a bottle of this stuff to try out for yourself.
