Brownstone – home of the $5 breakfast. And for Boston, that’s saying something.
Selma and I met some friends here for brunch last weekend and this place certainly did not disappoint. Situated in the heart of back bay bordering the South End, this place serves up some pretty bangin brunch options. Even though we had both just eaten breakfast before we came, the options were too enticing to resist. Though we did not opt for the $5 breakfast option (2 eggs, home fries, toast, choice of meat), we did get some other fantastic items.
As usual, Selma couldn’t resist her eggs benedict (poached eggs, black forest ham, hollandaise, english muffin). The eggs were poached perfectly and the hollandaise sauce had a unique lemony bite which was refreshing.
I ordered the Crunchy French Toast (frosted flake crusted toast, blueberry compote, whipped cream). I don’t usually go for the sweeter breakfast options (I like my meat) but this was surprisingly awesome. It smelled and tasted like the State Fair of Texas and reminded me of a crunchy funnel cake. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to try something different for brunch.
Overall, this place has a pretty solid brunch menu and if we are ever in the neighborhood for brunch again, we will be sure to visit!
