Bon Me

After reading about the hype that is Bon Me, I decided to finally give them a try. I’ve never been to their food truck but their brick and mortar store is located right behind my office building so it’s an easy walk for a quick lunch. My good friend who inspired me to start this food blog also works for them so it was on my to-do list of places to try. Their food is inspired by the classic Vietnamese banh mi sandwich but they take a non-traditional approach to their dishes which is refreshing every once in awhile.

Disclaimer #2: I didn’t order all of these things at once. This happened over a the span of a few weeks.

I started off with their classic bahn mi sandwich with a hearty portion of their Chinese BBQ pork. This little guy included pickled carrots and daikon, spicy mayo, cucumbers, red onion, and cilantro all on a toasted baguette. The BBQ pork reminded me of the traditional roasted pork I used to eat as a kid. I would get this one again for sure.

Here’s the next one with the lemongrass chicken. The lemongrass was definitely flavorful but not too overpowering which I was initially afraid of.

And then finally the miso braised pulled pork. This one was actually my favorite out of the 3 fillings that I tried. The pork was really moist and the flavors really stood out.

Lastly, I gave their Soba Noodle Salad with spicy peanut dressing a try. I added the miso pork again because it was my favorite. You can also get it with rice noodles but I opted for the soba noodles because I’ve never had them before.

This is essentially the same thing as their bahn mi sandwich except you get noodles instead of a baguette. However, this was surprisingly my favorite dish out of all the things that I’ve ordered here. I just wish there was more of it!

Now for those of you who know me, I compare all other bahn mi subs to my favorite from Pho Viet’s. I believe they set the standard for viet subs. The verdict: different, but still tasty. You can tell that they definitely put their own spin on the sub, especially when it comes to their meat selection. However, for $6 a sub it’s almost twice as much as you would/should pay for a viet sub, even in Boston. They definitely cater to the Caucasian crowd and with that comes the higher price tag (which is fine because they are always packed so something is working). Nevertheless, I would definitely come back for the noodle salad and a sub if i’m craving a good sandwich. They also have a rice bowl that looks intriguing as well!
