Meeting The Maker!!!

When opportunity knocks at the door, you should always answer. This was one of those rare opportunities.

I recently signed up to be a Makers Mark Ambassador because it represents two of my favorite things: Makers Mark and free things. As an ambassador, you get your name on a new cask of whisky and status updates on when it will be ready (6-7 years). When the time finally comes, you get the chance to buy the entire barrel ($4000) or a bottle from your batch. In addition, they also send you free gifts every holiday season as well as emails about special events in your area. This particular moment in my life was as if all of the stars aligned for one day to shower their Makers Mark blessings upon me.

A couple of days after I signed up to become an ambassador, I received an email that THE Maker, Bill Samuels Jr., himself was coming to a local bar in Boston and that I was invited for a meet and greet! It was as if Christmas came early this year. I quickly RSVP’d and went out to purchase a bottle for him to sign. Clearly you can tell that I got a little side tracked at the store and didn’t really buy any substantial food items…

Anyways, the day finally came to meet The Maker and I could hardly wait. You could bring 1 guest so Selma was suppose to be my +1 but it was her sisters B-Day that day and she decided to be a good sister and surprise her with some pastries (more on that later). However, my good friends Nevin and Mary joined me on this epic quest to meet The Maker. When we arrived, there was a little appetizer bar set up with some veggies and pita nachos. We were also given a drink ticket for 1 free Makers Mark drink of our choice!

There were also servers walking around with fried mushroom poppers, Teriyaki chicken skewers, and bacon wrapped scallops! All fo’ free! Unfortunately they didn’t have any mint so I couldn’t get my whiskey smash on. However, Makers and coke or ginger ale is always a close second.
