A few weeks ago, our good friend Samir came to visit from Seattle so I decided to pick him up from the airport…at 7 am. What else is there to do when you’re wide awake at 7am? That’s right. Chicken and waffles. This was also around the time when we were living in Allston. For those of you who are not familiar with Allston, MA, consider yourself fortunate. Nevertheless, Allston does have one redeeming quality…the food.
While yelping around for some potential breakfast diners, I came across some fantastic reviews for the Allston Diner. It was also just around the corner from our apt. so the decision was easy enough. This place pretty much sums up everything you would expect from Allston. Hipsters, weird, and damn good food.
Upon entering this restaurant, there is a noticeable sign on the door that states that they cant seat more than a party of 4. So if you have more than 4 people, you cant eat here apparently (yelp reviews suggest otherwise, but they wont be happy with you. And the last thing you want is to upset the hipsters).
I had to try the cornbread chicken and waffles based on all the reviews I had read. You can either get it with sausage gravy or smother it in syrup the old school way. The serving was also HUGE. I had trouble finishing it so that’s saying something. To this day, no other chicken and waffle has compared.
Samir got some pie (typical Samir) and Selma got the 46 Park Vale omelet. It was okay.
Anyways, we will definitely be back again for the chicken and waffles.
